Razor Clam and Oyster Harvest in the Same Day

Oyster Shells Willapa Bay
Oysterville Mountain of Oyster Shells

Willapa Bay, Washington is located on the east side of the Long Beach Washington, peninsula. This is where you will find some of the best Razor Clamming in the world! In addition, on this particular day, we razor-clammed on the north end of Long Beach in the morning, where we limited out. After that, we drove 15 minutes to Oysterville, and limited out on Oysters.

Willapa Bay Oyster Harvesting is Easy

There is both “You Pay” areas to Oyster, and “no-pay” areas to Oyster. Your going to need a bucket, a shucking knife, a pair of gloves, and a baggie to put your shucked Oysters in. If you pay you’re allowed to take the shell, if you don’t, you are required to shuck them and throw the shell back into the bay. Once you walk to the Oyster Bay you just look down and they are everywhere. Just pick one up and shuck it! That is it! Easy as That!

Willapa Bay Crabbing

There is also crabbing in many areas of the bay. You’ll also find, dock crabbing at the Nancotta Boat Ramp and dock. As well as, Cape Disappointment State Park.

Washington shellfish regulations change often, for each specie, in separate areas, with specific dates and times. Therefore, its easy to show up at the wrong time! For example, Razor Clam openings are posted weeks to a couple months prior to the opening, many times tentatively, and then after a biotoxin test will make it official just before the event. Just to be safe, check the Washington Department Fish and Wildlife website before you head out.

KNOW YOUR DAILY LIMITS! FILL ALL HOLES! SHUCK ALL OYSTERS AND LEAVE SHELLS ON THE BEACH WHERE YOU FOUND THEM!
